A quick and easy oven-baked chicken wings recipe with a sticky honey garlic glaze that delivers perfectly crispy skin and a sweet-savory flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
  • 1/4 cup honey (85g), preferably raw or wildflower
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced or mashed into a paste
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (60ml), low sodium recommended
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar (30ml)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or neutral cooking oil (15ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper (1g), freshly cracked
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (3g), adjust to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon optional chili flakes (0.5g)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch or arrowroot powder (8g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and set a wire rack on top.
  2. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. Toss the wings in cornstarch or arrowroot powder until lightly coated.
  3. Arrange the wings evenly spaced on the wire rack to allow air circulation.
  4. Bake for 35-40 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through cooking until golden-brown and crisp.
  5. While wings bake, combine honey, soy sauce, garlic paste, rice vinegar, olive oil, salt, pepper, and chili flakes (if using) in a small saucepan. Warm over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens slightly and becomes syrupy (about 5-7 minutes).
  6. Transfer the baked wings to a large bowl and pour the hot honey garlic sauce over them. Toss gently but thoroughly to coat every wing.
  7. Return the coated wings to the wire rack and bake for an additional 5 minutes to set the sauce.
  8. Serve immediately while the skin is crisp and the sauce is warm and sticky.

Notes

Pat wings dry thoroughly for best crispiness. Use a wire rack to prevent soggy wings. Toss wings in cornstarch or arrowroot powder for extra crispiness. Control oven temperature carefully to avoid burning. Make garlic paste for smoother sauce texture. Coat wings while hot for best glaze adhesion. Sauce can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat wings in oven to maintain crispiness.
