Spooky Mummy Pigs in a Blanket: Best Easy Mustard Eyes Recipe

mummy pigs in a blanket - featured image

These spooky mummy pigs in a blanket are a fun and easy Halloween appetizer made with just three ingredients: crescent rolls, mini smoked sausages, and yellow mustard for the eyes. They are quick to prepare, crowd-pleasing, and perfect for any Halloween party or potluck.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 24 mini smoked sausages or cocktail wieners
  • Yellow mustard for the eyes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean cutting board. If using perforated dough, press the seams together firmly to form a solid sheet.
  3. Cut the dough lengthwise into strips about 1/2 inch wide, then cut each strip in half crosswise to get shorter strips (about 4-5 inches long).
  4. Wrap each sausage with a strip of dough, leaving a small gap near the top for the face. Do not wrap too tightly.
  5. Place the wrapped mummies on the prepared baking sheet, about an inch apart.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and puffy.
  7. Let them cool for about 2 minutes on the baking sheet.
  8. Using a squeeze bottle or toothpick, place two small dots of yellow mustard in the exposed gap at the top of each mummy to create eyes.
  9. Serve immediately or keep warm.

Notes

Keep the dough cold for easier handling. Do not overbake; pull them when light golden and puffy. Add mustard eyes right before serving for best visual impact. For a spookier look, you can bake the mummies with the mustard already on them, but the mustard will darken and spread.
