A quick and easy weeknight dinner featuring juicy chicken thighs and charred broccoli in a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce. This lighter version delivers all the flavor without the heaviness, ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs (680g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 3 cups (300g) broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons (60ml) honey
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thicker sauce)
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) avocado oil or olive oil
  • Sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels. Cut into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5-inch chunks. Season lightly with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, low-sodium soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Add red pepper flakes if using. Set aside.
  3. Cut broccoli into florets of similar size. Rinse and pat dry.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon avocado oil. Wait until the oil shimmers, about 2 minutes.
  5. Add chicken pieces in a single layer (work in batches if needed). Cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Flip and cook another 3-4 minutes until cooked through. Transfer to a plate.
  6. In the same pan, add broccoli florets. Cook undisturbed for 2 minutes to char, then toss and cook another 2 minutes until crisp-tender.
  7. Return chicken to the pan with broccoli. Pour sauce over everything. Toss to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens slightly.
  8. If a thicker sauce is desired, mix 1 teaspoon cornstarch with 2 teaspoons cold water to make a slurry. Pour into pan and stir for 30 seconds.
  9. Remove from heat. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve immediately over rice, quinoa, or as-is.

Notes

Pat chicken dry for best sear. Watch honey to prevent burning; keep heat at medium-high. Have rice or quinoa ready before starting. For gluten-free, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
