A quick and easy Halloween treat made with popcorn, white chocolate ghosts, and festive mix-ins. Perfect for parties, movie nights, or classroom celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 cups popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels or one large bag of plain microwave popcorn)
  • 2 cups mini pretzel twists (optional but highly recommended)
  • 1 cup candy corn or candy pumpkins
  • 1/2 cup M&Ms in Halloween colors (orange, brown, and green)
  • 1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips (recommend Ghirardelli or Guittard)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening
  • 4860 candy eyes (small round, about 1/4 inch in diameter)
  • 1/4 cup orange candy melts or orange chocolate (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt (a pinch)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. If your popcorn is stale or you want it extra crispy, spread it out on the baking sheet and warm it in the oven for 5-7 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the popped popcorn, mini pretzels, candy corn or pumpkins, and Halloween M&Ms. Gently toss everything together.
  3. Place the white chocolate chips and coconut oil (if using) in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until smooth (about 1-2 minutes total).
  4. Working quickly, use a small cookie scoop or teaspoon to drop dollops of melted white chocolate onto the parchment-lined baking sheet (about 1 tablespoon each, oval-shaped). Press two candy eyes into each dollop while the chocolate is still wet. You should get about 12-15 ghosts.
  5. Drizzle the remaining melted white chocolate over the popcorn mixture. Use a spatula to gently fold and toss until lightly coated.
  6. Transfer the coated popcorn mixture to the same baking sheet (around the ghosts, or on a separate sheet). Spread into an even layer. Press down gently with the spatula if you want clusters.
  7. If using orange candy melts, melt them in a small bowl using the same microwave method. Drizzle over the popcorn mix using a fork or small spoon.
  8. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle a tiny pinch of flaky sea salt over everything.
  9. Allow the popcorn mix and ghosts to cool and set completely at room temperature, about 20-30 minutes. (Or refrigerate for 10-15 minutes.)
  10. Once set, break the popcorn mix into clusters. Gently place the white chocolate ghosts on top of the clusters or arrange them on a serving platter with the popcorn mix.

Notes

Don’t overheat the white chocolate; it burns easily. Use stale popcorn for better texture. Work in a cool, dry kitchen to avoid humidity issues. Make extra ghosts as they are fragile. Let kids help place candy eyes.
