A bright, spicy, and sweet small-batch hot sauce made with ripe peaches and habanero peppers. Perfect for tacos, wings, or as a glaze, this simple recipe comes together in under an hour and is completely customizable.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe peaches, pitted and roughly chopped (about 1 cup chopped)
  • 1 habanero pepper, stem removed (seeds in for more heat, seeds out for milder)
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar for a fruitier flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 small clove garlic, minced (optional, but recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients. Wash the peaches and the habanero. Pit the peaches and roughly chop them into 1-inch chunks. Remove the stem from the habanero. If you want a milder sauce, cut the habanero in half and scrape out the seeds and white membrane. If you want more heat, leave them in.
  2. Combine everything in the saucepan. Add the chopped peaches, habanero, vinegar, honey, water, salt, and garlic (if using) to your saucepan. Stir together.
  3. Bring to a simmer. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low once it reaches a simmer.
  4. Cook until the peaches are soft. Let the mixture simmer for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the peaches are very soft and easily mashed against the side of the pan.
  5. Let it cool slightly. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool for about 5 minutes before blending.
  6. Blend until smooth. Carefully transfer the mixture to your blender. Secure the lid tightly and blend on high for 30 to 60 seconds until completely smooth. Add water a tablespoon at a time if needed to reach desired consistency.
  7. Taste and adjust. Add more honey for sweetness, more vinegar for tang, or more salt to brighten flavors as needed.
  8. Strain (optional). For an ultra-smooth sauce, pour through a fine-mesh strainer, pressing on solids with a spatula.
  9. Bottle and store. Pour the finished sauce into a clean glass jar or bottle. Let cool completely to room temperature before sealing. Store in the refrigerator.

Notes

Wear gloves when handling habaneros to avoid skin irritation. Let the sauce rest overnight in the fridge for flavors to meld and deepen. The sauce keeps for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. Do not freeze as texture may become watery.
