A nourishing and effortless overnight oats recipe combining rolled oats, Greek yogurt, chia seeds, and subtle flavors for a creamy, high-protein breakfast ready to grab and go.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup (45g) rolled oats (old-fashioned, not instant)
  • ½ cup (120ml) Greek yogurt (plain, full-fat or 2%)
  • ½ cup (120ml) milk (dairy or plant-based like almond or oat milk)
  • 1 tablespoon (12g) chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon (20g) honey or maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ cup (40g) fresh or frozen berries (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Measure the oats and chia seeds: Place ½ cup (45g) rolled oats and 1 tablespoon (12g) chia seeds into your jar or container.
  2. Add Greek yogurt and milk: Spoon in ½ cup (120ml) Greek yogurt and ½ cup (120ml) milk. The combination gives the perfect creamy texture without being too thick or watery.
  3. Sweeten and flavor: Mix in 1 tablespoon (20g) honey or maple syrup, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, ¼ teaspoon cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  4. Stir well: Use a spoon or small whisk to combine everything until smooth. Make sure chia seeds are evenly distributed to avoid clumps.
  5. Add berries (optional): Toss in ¼ cup (40g) fresh or frozen berries for a pop of color and flavor.
  6. Seal and refrigerate: Cover the jar tightly and place it in the refrigerator overnight (or at least 6 hours).
  7. Check consistency: In the morning, give it a good stir. If it’s too thick, add a splash of milk and mix. If too thin, a few more chia seeds can thicken it up.
  8. Top and serve: Add nuts, seeds, or a drizzle of extra honey if you like. Enjoy cold or let it sit out 10 minutes for a less chilled bite.

Notes

Do not use instant oats as they become mushy. Stir well before refrigerating to avoid clumps. Adjust milk quantity for desired consistency. Adding chia seeds is important for thickness and texture. Overnight soaking is ideal, but a minimum of 4 hours can work. Fresh berries are best added in the morning to avoid dilution.
