A quick and easy refreshing summer mocktail combining fresh strawberries, basil, and lemon juice for a bright, flavorful drink perfect for gatherings or solo enjoyment.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered (about 150g)
  • 810 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 large fresh lemons (about ½ cup or 120ml freshly squeezed lemon juice)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar or honey (50g), adjust to taste
  • 3 cups cold water (still or sparkling, 720ml)
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: strawberry slices or basil sprigs for garnish
  • Optional: fresh mint for extra herbaceous note

Instructions

  1. Rinse strawberries and basil leaves under cold water. Remove stems from strawberries and quarter them. Pat basil leaves dry.
  2. In a pitcher or mixing bowl, add strawberries and basil leaves. Gently muddle with a muddler or back of a wooden spoon to release juices and aromas without pulverizing.
  3. Roll lemons on the counter, cut in half, and squeeze out about ½ cup (120ml) of lemon juice, removing seeds.
  4. Add ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar or honey to the muddled mixture. Stir well to dissolve sugar. If using honey, a little warm water helps blend it.
  5. Pour in 3 cups (720ml) cold water (still or sparkling). Stir until sugar is fully dissolved and flavors meld.
  6. Add plenty of ice cubes to the pitcher or glasses. Garnish with strawberry slices or basil sprigs if desired. Serve chilled.

Notes

Muddle basil gently to avoid bitterness. Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor. Adjust sweetness based on strawberry ripeness. Sparkling water can be used for fizz. Chill thoroughly before serving. Can blend ingredients for smoother texture but loses rustic charm. Store leftovers in airtight container in fridge up to 2 days.
