Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (240 g)
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups milk (whole or 2%)
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar (100 g)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for cinnamon swirl)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened (115 g)
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar (90 g), sifted
  • 23 tbsp milk (for cream cheese drizzle)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for cream cheese drizzle)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually about 5 minutes).
  2. Make the cinnamon swirl: In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and melted butter until combined. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the waffle batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs lightly, then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  5. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry, folding gently with a spatula until just combined. It’s okay to have a few lumps—overmixing can make waffles tough.
  6. Swirl the cinnamon mixture: Pour half of the batter into the waffle iron, then spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cinnamon swirl over the top. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl it through the batter, creating ribbons of cinnamon goodness.
  7. Top with the remaining batter and close the waffle iron. Cook for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crisp on the outside. The steam should lessen when they’re done.
  8. Carefully remove the waffle and place on a wire rack to keep crisp while you repeat with the remaining batter and cinnamon swirl.
  9. Make the cream cheese drizzle: In a medium bowl, beat softened cream cheese with powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and pourable. Add more milk 1 teaspoon at a time if it’s too thick.
  10. Serve warm waffles drizzled generously with cream cheese glaze.

Notes

Let the batter rest for 5 minutes before cooking for fluffier waffles. Use a folding motion when mixing batter to avoid toughness. Lightly brush waffle iron with melted butter if it tends to stick. Keep cream cheese drizzle chilled if not using immediately. Reheat waffles in toaster oven for best texture.
