A quick and easy smoked salmon bagel brunch board perfect for weekend gatherings, featuring toasted bagels, creamy lemon-zested cream cheese, fresh veggies, and smoky salmon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 bagels (plain, everything, or sesame), toasted
  • 8 oz (225 g) thinly sliced smoked salmon
  • 8 oz (225 g) full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons capers, rinsed
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cucumber, sliced into rounds or ribbons
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced or mashed (optional)
  • Olive oil, for drizzling
  • Lemon wedges, for squeezing
  • Fresh dill, chopped and sprigs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Slice 4 bagels in half and toast them until golden and slightly crisp, about 3-5 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, mix 8 oz softened cream cheese with the zest of one lemon and a pinch of freshly cracked black pepper until smooth.
  3. Thinly slice half a red onion, one cucumber, and halve 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes. Arrange separately in small bowls or on the platter.
  4. Lay out 8 oz of thinly sliced smoked salmon on your serving board, folding gently to create volume and texture.
  5. Rinse 2 tablespoons of capers under cold water to reduce saltiness, then drain well. Chop a handful of fresh dill and set aside.
  6. If using, slice one ripe avocado just before serving to avoid browning. Optionally, mash with a squeeze of lemon for a spread.
  7. Place toasted bagel halves on the platter. Add bowls or piles of cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, sliced veggies, avocado, cherry tomatoes, and lemon wedges.
  8. Drizzle a little olive oil over the veggies and sprinkle freshly cracked black pepper over the whole board.
  9. Garnish with extra dill sprigs and a few lemon wedges for squeezing. Invite everyone to build their own bagel masterpieces.

Notes

Toast bagels to a golden brown with a slight crunch for best texture. Rinse capers well to reduce saltiness. Slice avocado last to avoid browning and optionally mash with lemon juice. Use fresh herbs and keep smoked salmon chilled until serving. For dairy-free or gluten-free options, substitute cream cheese and bagels accordingly.
