This spider web charcuterie board is a visually stunning and delicious Halloween appetizer that comes together in under 20 minutes. It features a creamy, herbed spider web piped over brie, surrounded by an assortment of cheeses, cured meats, crackers, and spooky garnishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried dill (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 12 tablespoons milk (to thin the mixture, if needed)
  • 810 oz assorted cheeses (sharp cheddar, creamy brie, firm gouda or manchego)
  • 68 oz cured meats (salami, prosciutto, or pepperoni)
  • 1 box of crackers (buttery Ritz, pretzel crisps, sturdy wheat crackers)
  • 1/2 cup black olives
  • 1/2 cup green olives (stuffed with pimento)
  • 1/4 cup cornichons or pickles
  • 1/4 cup nuts (almonds or pecans)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs
  • Optional garnishes: dried cranberries, fig jam, honey, or olive and pretzel stick spiders

Instructions

  1. Make the cream cheese web mixture: In a small mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, dried dill, salt, and pepper. Mix with a spatula until completely smooth and creamy. If the mixture is too thick to pipe, add 1 tablespoon of milk and stir. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  2. Prepare your piping bag: Fit your piping bag with a small round tip, or simply snip a tiny corner off a zip-top bag. Fill the bag with the cream cheese mixture. Twist the top of the bag to seal it and push the mixture down towards the tip.
  3. Arrange the base of the board: Place your brie wheel in the center of the serving board. Arrange your other cheeses, cured meats, and small bowls of olives, nuts, and pickles around the brie, leaving some open space for the crackers.
  4. Pipe the spider web: Starting at the top of the brie wheel, pipe a thin line of the cream cheese mixture straight down to the bottom. Then, pipe another line from the left side to the right side, crossing the first line in the center. Repeat to create an ‘X’ shape and a ‘+’ shape, so you have 8 lines radiating out from the center like spokes on a wheel.
  5. Create the concentric rings: Starting from the center, pipe a small circle around the center point. Then, pipe a larger circle around that one, connecting the spokes. Continue piping larger and larger circles until you reach the edge of the brie.
  6. Add the crackers and garnishes: Fill the remaining empty spaces on the board with your crackers. Tuck the fresh rosemary sprigs around the edges of the board. Place a few black olives on the board to look like little spiders.
  7. Final touches: If you have any extra cream cheese mixture, pipe a few small ‘spider’ shapes on the board or on a cracker. Drizzle a little honey or fig jam over the brie or a wedge of cheddar. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready.

Notes

Soften cream cheese to room temperature for easy piping. Use a small piping tip for thin, delicate web lines. The brie acts as a canvas for the web; do not skip it. The board can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance; cover and refrigerate, then let come to room temperature before serving.
