easy peach crisp recipe - featured image

A simple and comforting peach crisp featuring a buttery brown sugar streusel topping, perfect for summer using fresh or canned peaches.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups peeled and sliced fresh peaches (about 67 medium peaches) or 2 (15-ounce) cans of peaches in syrup, drained
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust depending on peach sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (for streusel topping)
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar (preferably dark brown sugar)
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for streusel topping)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. If using fresh peaches, peel, pit, and slice them into 1/2-inch thick slices.
  3. Toss the peaches with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon flour in a large bowl until evenly coated.
  4. Spread the peach mixture evenly in a 9×9-inch baking dish, ensuring the juices are well distributed.
  5. In another bowl, combine 3/4 cup flour, brown sugar, rolled oats, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and salt.
  6. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and work it in using a pastry cutter, two forks, or your fingertips until pea-sized crumbs form.
  7. Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the peaches without pressing down.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and bubbling around the edges. If browning too fast, loosely cover with foil during the last 10 minutes.
  9. Let the peach crisp cool for 10-15 minutes before serving to allow the juices to thicken.

Notes

Use cold butter for the streusel to create a crumbly texture. Let the crisp cool before serving to avoid a runny texture. Adjust sugar based on peach sweetness. Rolled oats add a rustic crunch but can be omitted if allergic. Rotate baking dish halfway through baking for even browning. For gluten-free, substitute flours and oats accordingly. For dairy-free, replace butter with coconut oil.
