These quick and easy one-bowl chocolate chip cookies feature a fun spider web effect from melted candy corn. Perfect for Halloween or any time you want a festive, delicious treat with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup candy corn

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, melt the 1/2 cup of unsalted butter in the microwave in 20-second bursts or on the stovetop. Let it cool for a minute.
  3. Add the 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar and 1/4 cup granulated sugar to the melted butter. Whisk vigorously until smooth and looks like wet sand, about 30 seconds.
  4. Add the room-temperature egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Whisk until the mixture is pale and slightly thickened, about 1 minute.
  5. Sprinkle the 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt over the wet mixture. Switch to a wooden spoon or spatula and stir until just combined. A few streaks of flour are fine.
  6. Gently fold in 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1/2 cup of candy corn. The dough will be thick and slightly sticky.
  7. Use a cookie scoop or two spoons to drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers look slightly underdone.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For more dramatic spider webs, press a few extra pieces of candy corn onto the tops of the dough balls just before baking. Use fresh, soft candy corn for the best melt. If you want thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
