Easy Mummy Hot Dogs Recipe: Best Halloween Appetizer

mummy hot dogs - featured image

All-beef hot dogs wrapped in strips of buttery crescent dough, baked until golden, then dotted with mustard or ketchup eyes. They’re silly, simple, and the first thing to disappear at any Halloween party.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 count) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 all-beef hot dogs
  • Mustard or ketchup for eyes
  • Cooking spray or melted butter (optional)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
  • Pretzel sticks (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean cutting board. Press the seams together gently to create one solid rectangle. Use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut the dough lengthwise into 8 thin strips, each about 1/2 inch wide.
  3. Take one hot dog and place a strip of dough at one end. Wrap it around the hot dog at a slight diagonal, overlapping the dough slightly as you go. Leave a small gap at the top for the ‘face’ area—about 1 inch of exposed hot dog. Press the end of the dough gently to seal. Repeat with all 8 hot dogs.
  4. Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the hot dogs are heated through.
  5. Let the mummy hot dogs cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes. Use a toothpick or small piping bag to add two tiny dots of mustard or ketchup to the exposed hot dog area for eyes.
  6. Serve immediately. Transfer to a serving platter and enjoy warm.

Notes

Keep crescent dough cold until ready to cut. Overlap dough strips slightly for best bandage effect. Add eyes just before serving to prevent smearing. For extra golden finish, brush with melted butter before baking.
