This easy lemon butter baked salmon is a quick, 15-minute dinner that delivers tender, flaky fish with a bright, buttery sauce. Perfect for busy weeknights, it uses simple pantry ingredients and comes together effortlessly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large lemon (juice and zest)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
  • Lemon slices (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Place them in a baking dish, skin-side down if they have skin.
  3. Season both sides of the salmon with salt and pepper. Let rest for 5 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, melt the butter. Add minced garlic, lemon zest (about 1 teaspoon), and lemon juice (about 2 tablespoons). Whisk together.
  5. Pour the butter mixture over the salmon fillets, distributing evenly.
  6. Place thin lemon slices on top of each fillet.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until salmon flakes easily with a fork and internal temperature reaches 125-130°F for medium.
  8. Remove from oven and let rest for 2 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately, spooning pan juices over each fillet.

Notes

Bring salmon to room temperature 15 minutes before cooking for even cooking. Don’t crowd the pan; leave space between fillets. Watch the garlic to prevent burning. Use pan juices over rice or vegetables. Line baking dish with parchment for easy cleanup. Double the sauce if desired.
