A quick and easy dinner recipe featuring moist salmon glazed with a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce, paired perfectly with roasted asparagus for a healthy, flavorful meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 oz / 170 g each, skin-on or skinless)
  • 1 bunch asparagus (about 12 oz / 340 g), trimmed
  • 1/4 cup honey (85 g)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (45 ml), low sodium preferred
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil (45 ml), extra virgin
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15 ml), freshly squeezed
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Rinse and trim woody ends off asparagus. Toss asparagus with 1 tablespoon olive oil and season lightly with salt and pepper. Spread evenly on a baking sheet in a single layer.
  3. Roast asparagus in the oven for 12-15 minutes, shaking or flipping halfway through until bright green and tender-crisp.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes if using. Set aside.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add 2 tablespoons olive oil. Once shimmering, place salmon fillets skin-side down if using skin-on. Cook undisturbed for 4-5 minutes until skin is crisp and fish is mostly cooked.
  6. Flip salmon carefully and reduce heat to medium. Pour honey garlic glaze over salmon. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, spooning glaze over fish as it thickens into a sticky sauce. Avoid burning the honey by keeping heat moderate.
  7. Check salmon doneness; it should flake easily and reach an internal temperature of about 125°F (52°C) for medium rare.
  8. Remove asparagus from oven, toss with remaining olive oil and season if needed.
  9. Serve salmon immediately with roasted asparagus.

Notes

If glaze thickens too fast or starts to burn, lower heat and add a splash of water to loosen it. Avoid overcrowding the pan when searing salmon; cook in batches if needed. Pat salmon dry before cooking for a better sear. Let salmon rest 2-3 minutes off heat before serving. Fresh garlic is preferred over garlic powder for best flavor.
