Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (15 oz) can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
  • ⅓ cup sour cream (for spider web topping)
  • Chopped fresh cilantro or green onions (optional garnish)
  • Tortilla chips for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, mash black beans with a fork or potato masher until about half are broken down. Add softened cream cheese, ¼ cup sour cream, shredded cheddar, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined and creamy.
  3. Spread the bean mixture evenly into an 8×8 inch baking dish, smoothing the top.
  4. Bake for 10 minutes, until hot and bubbly around the edges.
  5. While the dip bakes, prepare the sour cream web: spoon ⅓ cup sour cream into a small zip-top bag. Snip off a tiny corner.
  6. Remove dip from oven and let cool for 2 minutes. Pipe concentric circles of sour cream starting from the center, spaced about 1 inch apart. Use a toothpick or knife tip to drag lines from the center outward through all circles, creating a spider web pattern.
  7. Garnish with cilantro or green onions if desired. Serve immediately with tortilla chips.

Notes

Let cream cheese soften for easier blending. Don’t over-mash beans; leave some chunks for texture. Let dip cool 2-3 minutes before adding sour cream web to prevent melting. For a spicier version, add diced green chiles or jalapeño. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
