A quick and easy recipe to make a creamy, dairy-free, brown sugar oat milk shaken espresso at home that replicates the Starbucks favorite with simple ingredients and a frothy texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots espresso or 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee (about 2 fl oz / 60 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar syrup (made by dissolving equal parts dark brown sugar and water)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) chilled oat milk (preferably barista-style like Oatly)
  • 1 cup ice cubes (about 240 ml)
  • Optional: pinch of ground cinnamon for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the brown sugar syrup by combining 1/4 cup dark brown sugar with 1/4 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Brew two shots of espresso (2 fl oz / 60 ml) or prepare 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee and let it cool slightly.
  3. In a cocktail shaker or mason jar, add 1/2 cup chilled oat milk, 2 tablespoons brown sugar syrup, and the brewed espresso.
  4. Add about 1 cup of ice cubes to the shaker, filling it about halfway.
  5. Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until frothy and creamy.
  6. Strain the mixture into a tall glass filled with fresh ice cubes.
  7. Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon on top before serving.

Notes

Use freshly brewed hot espresso for best froth. Keep oat milk and syrup chilled before shaking. Do not overfill the shaker to allow proper aeration. Dark brown sugar syrup adds richer caramel notes. If oat milk separates after pouring, gently stir before drinking. The recipe is forgiving and can be adjusted for sweetness or strength.
