Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon hot water
  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee or 2 shots espresso
  • 3/4 cup barista blend oat milk
  • Ice (for iced version)
  • Cinnamon stick (optional, for garnish)
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Extra sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the brown sugar cinnamon syrup: In a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, combine 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon hot water. If using the stovetop, warm over low heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved—about 1 to 2 minutes. If using the microwave, heat for 20 seconds, stir, then heat for another 10 seconds if needed. The mixture should be smooth and syrupy.
  2. Brew your coffee or espresso: While the syrup is cooling slightly, brew 1/2 cup (120 ml) of strong coffee or 2 shots of espresso. Use double the amount of coffee grounds if using a drip coffee maker, or let a French press steep for 4 minutes.
  3. Pour the syrup into your mug: Pour the warm brown sugar cinnamon syrup into the bottom of your mug. Swirl it around to coat the sides.
  4. Add the hot coffee: Pour the brewed coffee or espresso over the syrup. Stir gently to combine.
  5. Froth the oat milk: Pour 3/4 cup (180 ml) of barista blend oat milk into a small saucepan or microwave-safe cup. Heat until steaming hot but not boiling—about 150°F (65°C) or until small bubbles form around the edges. Use a frother to froth the milk until it’s doubled in volume and has a creamy, velvety texture. If using a handheld frother, tilt the cup slightly and move the frother up and down for about 20-30 seconds.
  6. Pour the frothed milk over the coffee: Hold a spoon just above the surface of the coffee and pour the frothed milk slowly over the back of the spoon to create layers.
  7. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle a tiny pinch of cinnamon on top of the foam. Add a cinnamon stick for stirring if desired. Serve immediately. For an iced version: Fill a glass with ice, pour the syrup and coffee over the ice, then top with cold frothed oat milk.

Notes

For a smoother syrup, dissolve the brown sugar and cinnamon in hot water first to avoid gritty texture. Use barista blend oat milk for best frothing results. The syrup can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
