Juicy, flavorful burger patties loaded with cheese, onions, and peppers that freeze well and make weeknight dinners quick and easy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 cup (100 g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup (40 g) green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1/4 cup (40 g) red onion, finely diced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup (30 g) breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, room temperature

Instructions

  1. Dice your vegetables: finely chop the green bell pepper and red onion (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, shredded cheddar, diced peppers and onions, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, breadcrumbs, and egg.
  3. Mix gently using hands or a spatula until just combined, avoiding overmixing (3-5 minutes).
  4. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a round patty about 3/4 inch (2 cm) thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb.
  5. Preheat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  6. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and cheese is melted inside (total cook time 8-10 minutes).
  7. Let patties cool completely on a wire rack. Separate with parchment paper or plastic wrap and store in an airtight container or freezer bag. Label with date.
  8. To reheat, cook frozen patties in a skillet over medium heat for 6-8 minutes per side or bake in a 375°F (190°C) oven for about 20 minutes until heated through.

Notes

Do not overmix the meat to keep patties tender and juicy. Make a dent in the center of each patty to prevent puffing up. Let patties cool completely before freezing and separate with parchment paper to avoid sticking. Reheat in skillet or oven for best texture; avoid microwaving if possible. If patties feel dry, add a splash of milk or an extra egg; if too wet, add more breadcrumbs.
