A quick and easy grilled cheese sandwich loaded with sharp cheddar, mozzarella, and parmesan cheeses, delivering a perfect crispy crust and gooey melt in just 10 minutes.

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese, finely grated
  • Optional add-ins: thinly sliced tomato, crispy bacon bits, fresh herbs like basil or chives

Instructions

  1. Gather your ingredients: have all your cheese shredded and ready, bread sliced, and butter softened.
  2. Spread about 1/2 tablespoon of softened butter evenly on one side of each bread slice. The buttered sides will be the outside of the sandwich.
  3. On the unbuttered side of one bread slice, sprinkle the shredded sharp cheddar evenly. Follow with the mozzarella, then top with grated parmesan. Add optional extras like tomato or bacon if desired.
  4. Place the second slice of bread butter-side out on top of the layered slice, pressing gently to compact the sandwich slightly.
  5. Place your skillet over medium-low heat.
  6. Place the sandwich in the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
  7. Using your spatula, flip the sandwich gently. Cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes, pressing lightly with the spatula.
  8. Check that the sandwich is crispy and golden on both sides with melted cheese inside. If bread browns too fast, lower heat and cover pan briefly.
  9. Remove from pan, let sit for a minute, then slice and serve immediately.

Notes

Keep heat medium-low to avoid burning bread before cheese melts. Use softened butter for even spreading. Freshly shred cheeses for best melt. Press gently with spatula while cooking. Add a splash of milk inside sandwich for extra gooey cheese. Refrigerate assembled sandwich up to 1 hour before cooking if needed.
