  • 1 cup whole milk (or 2% or oat milk)
  • 1/2 teaspoon mint extract (not peppermint)
  • 24 drops green food coloring (optional)
  • 68 Oreo cookies, crushed (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream, very cold
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Extra Oreo crumbs (for garnish, optional)
  • Maraschino cherries (for garnish, optional)
  • Festive sprinkles (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Chill your glasses in the freezer for 2 minutes (optional) to keep your shake frosty.
  2. Place 6-8 Oreo cookies in a zip-top bag and crush with a rolling pin, leaving some fine crumbs and some larger chunks. Reserve 1-2 tablespoons for topping.
  3. In a blender, add 3 cups vanilla ice cream, 1 cup whole milk, 1/2 teaspoon mint extract, and 2-4 drops green food coloring. Blend until smooth and creamy. If too thick, add a splash more milk.
  4. Add most of the crushed Oreos to the blender. Pulse 2-3 times, just enough to mix in the cookies but not pulverize them. For chunkier texture, stir in by hand.
  5. In a cold mixing bowl, whip 1/2 cup heavy cream with 1 tablespoon powdered sugar and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract until soft peaks form. (Or use store-bought whipped topping.)
  6. Pour the shake into chilled glasses, leaving room at the top. Swirl on a generous dollop of whipped cream.
  7. Garnish with reserved Oreo crumbs, a maraschino cherry, and festive sprinkles if desired. Serve immediately with straws and long spoons.

Notes

For a dairy-free or vegan version, use plant-based ice cream, milk, and whipped topping, and dairy-free sandwich cookies. Start with less mint extract and add to taste, as some brands are stronger. For a chunkier shake, fold in Oreos by hand. Chill all ingredients and equipment for the thickest shake. If too thick, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time; if too thin, add more ice cream. Serve immediately for best texture.
