A cozy and indulgent cocktail blending rich coffee, smooth Irish whiskey, and a silky cream float, perfect for relaxing evenings or impressing guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz Irish whiskey (e.g., Jameson)
  • 1 oz freshly brewed strong coffee (espresso or strong drip)
  • 1 oz heavy cream, lightly whipped
  • 0.5 oz vanilla syrup (homemade or store-bought)
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp espresso powder
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional garnishes: freshly grated nutmeg, cocoa powder, or coffee beans

Instructions

  1. Brew 1 oz of strong espresso or very strong drip coffee and let it cool slightly.
  2. Prepare vanilla syrup if homemade by combining equal parts sugar and water, heating until sugar dissolves, then adding vanilla extract. Cool before use.
  3. Lightly whip 1 oz heavy cream until it holds soft peaks.
  4. In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 oz Irish whiskey, 1 oz brewed coffee, 0.5 oz vanilla syrup, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 1/4 tsp espresso powder.
  5. Fill the shaker halfway with ice cubes.
  6. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the shaker is cold and ice rattles.
  7. Strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass, leaving room for the cream.
  8. Slowly pour the whipped cream over the back of a spoon onto the drink’s surface to create a silky layer.
  9. Garnish with a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg, cocoa powder, or a few coffee beans.
  10. Serve immediately.

Notes

Chill the brewed coffee slightly before mixing to prevent melting the cream. Shake vigorously but not too long to avoid diluting the drink. Pour whipped cream slowly over the back of a spoon to float it on top. Adjust sweetness to taste by varying simple and vanilla syrup amounts. For dairy-free, substitute heavy cream with coconut or oat cream.
